Glory Gardens

In these nine books Bob Cattell relates the adventures of Glory Gardens CC, both on and off the pitch. The action-packed stories, perfect for young cricket fans and players of all abilities, are brought to life with diagrams, scoresheets and illustrations, plus a special cricket 'jargon buster’.

The Glory Gardens series was picked as a top cricketing summer read by the Guardian newspaper, while Cricketer Magazine elected captain Hooker Knight as one of the top 10 cricketers in fiction.

Glory in the Cup

Hooker, Azzie, Erica and the rest all play cricket in their spare time. One of their teachers suggests they form an official team and play proper matches – and Glory Gardens CC is formed. Hooker soon finds out that cricket teams weren’t built in a day: some players squabble, and some have tantrums and go home at half-time.

Bound for Glory

Glory Gardens CC are in the North County Under 13 League, and the pressure is really on. Hooker, as captain, worries that the team won’t be able to hold it together. But there’s also Mack, the new player, the lucky mascot Gatting, plus the whole team’s unwavering determination to win against all the odds.

The Big Test

It really doesn’t look like being Hooker’s season. Not only does he spend the first match of the league suffering a dropped-catch jinx but now there’s civil war in the team over the selections. He has one solution that might work by making Ohbert captain in his place – that’s not strategy – that’s suicide

World Cup Fever

Glory Gardens CC can’t resist a challenge and this time they’re going for gold in a World Cup competition. It’s not long before the thrills and spills of cricket spark off sporting drama. So as Australia do battle with the West Indies and South Africa face India, can Glory Gardens rise above the squabbling and bring glory for England?

League of Champions

The U15s’ League competition starts up. Hooker and company enter with typical Glory Gardens gusto. But have they really got what it takes to get through the early rounds to the final of the knock-out competition at Edgbaston?

Blaze of Glory

Glory Gardens CC are Barbados-bound for the cricket tour of a lifetime. But they find that cricketing West Indian style with rock-hard pitches and startlingly fast bowlers is a little more tricky than they first thought.

Down the Wicket

When the Glory Gardens team is forced to return to its roots and play on Glory Gardens recreation ground the pitch is far from ideal. With the side losing matches, Hooker losing his form and the injuries mounting some players threaten to leave Glory Gardens to play for another team. Can the captain put together a side capable of beating their old enemy, Wyckham Wanderers, and maintaining their league title?

The Glory Ashes

Ohbert’s increasingly wild claims on his Glory Gardens website culminate in a challenge for anyone to take on the ‘reigning world champions’. When this is accepted by the top club in Australia and the press pick up on the story, there is much more at stake than the team’s reputation.

Return to Glory

The team is in Australia facing the challenge thrown down by their arch rivals, Woolagong C.C. The hastily arranged tour gets off to a difficult start with players struggling for form and problems over team discipline. As Christmas approaches, Hooker is battling to motivate his players for the vital, three-day game. Will Glory Gardens still retain Ohbert’s Ashes when they return home to England?
